Britain’s Strongest Man is back this weekend Saturday 1/27/18 at the FLY DSA Arena in Sheffield, U.K and Worlds Strongest Man Eddie Hall is going for his 5th straight title which would be a new record.
Eddie Hall is a clear favorite especially with second place finisher last year Laurence Shahlaei out with a back injury but I don’t think this contest will be a walk in the park for The Beast. It is widely rumored he has a few injuries and there has not been much training footage since his win at Worlds Strongest Man last year. The only other contest we have to go off of is The Giants Live Finals where Eddie Hall retired after the first event due to a reported illness. This Saturday will be interesting insight to see what shape Hall is in for the 2018 Strongman season.
So who will challenge Hall for the title? My favorite is Graham “Hixxy” Hicks. Hixxy holds the British record for the log press and could win the first event. The key is to have good performances in the stones and super yoke.
Adam Bishop tore his bicep last year but could be towards the top if he is healed and back in shape a long with the Stoltman brothers.
This will also be a good test of the new lean Terry Hollands. If he can have a mid pack performance in the log he could possibly end up on the podium.
A lot of new names are looking to upset the current ranks in British Strongman as well like Paul Smith, Ken Nowicki, Aaron Page & Mark Steele. Look for some of those names to make a splash and get a Worlds Strongest Man qualifying spot.
