Baccarat is one of the oldest casino games and is normally played by the same rules all around the globe. Players do not often think of Baccarat as a game that comes in many different versions. However, several different types of baccarat are available across casinos – also try the Monopoly Heights slot.
If you are interested to find out about these versions and the key differences between them, you could benefit from reading this guide. In this article, several kinds of baccarat are covered: 3 Card Baccarat, Chemin de Fer and Mini Baccarat.
3 Card Baccarat
The regular rules of baccarat dictate that the objective is to have a hand that has a numerical worth of as close to 9 as possible. In 3 Card Baccarat, the objective is still the same.
The game is played with a single deck of 52 cards. Each round starts with the dealer distributing 3 cards to themselves as well as the players. The scoring rules work just like regular baccarat, where face cards and 10 are worth zero and other cards are worth their numerical value.
However, in 3 Card Baccarat, a hand with three face cards is the most valuable one and a score of 9 is the second-best hand (normally first-best in regular baccarat). Assuming the banker and the player tie, the hand with more face cards wins.
Chemin de Fer
This version of Baccarat differs from the traditional game (Punto Banco) in a way that the “banker” position moves around the table in a similar fashion that the “dealer” circles around the poker table. In Punto Banco baccarat, the bank position is always held by the “house” (the casino). In Chemin de Fer, players take turns in being the banker. Subsequently, players compete against each other rather than the casino.
Chemin de Fer is played with 6 card decks shuffled together. At the beginning of each round, the banker stakes a wager that covers the bets of all the players. Then, the players take turns in betting their chosen amounts (not exceeding the banker’s bet). Next, two cards are dealt face-down to the player with the biggest wager, and two to the banker. If the banker or the player has a hand that equals to 8 or 9, the game ends and whoever has that hand wins. Otherwise, the player can decide whether to take a third card IF their hand is worth a 5. Initial hands are revealed next. Finally, the banker decides whether to take a third card or not, then hands are compared and the winnings of the round are distributed.
Chemin de Fer requires more interaction between players. This means that it can be a profitable game for those who are skilled and have a chance of beating the lesser-skilled players.
This is the most popular version of baccarat in most casinos. In Mini Baccarat, the banker position is always assumed by the dealer who represents the casino. This version of the game seats up to 7 players and therefore, the gameplay is faster and the competition is lesser. The rules of traditional baccarat apply to Mini Baccarat. It is a safe choice for players of all levels!
